Apple App Store crosses 50 Billion App Downloads, announces the winner

50 Billon AppsYesterday, Apple crossed yet another milestone with over 50 Billion Apps
downloaded from the App Store. This brings the 50 Billion App Downloads
Countdown promotion to an end with Apple announcing the name of the lucky winner.

The name of the lucky winner who downloaded the 50 billionth app has been
announced. Brandon Ashmore from Mentor, Ohio won the grand prize of
$10,000 iTunes gift card and the 50th billion app to be downloaded was the
free word game “Say The Same Thing.”

Apple issuing the following statement to the press:

Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for
topping 50 billion apps downloaded,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice
president of Internet Software and Services. “The App Store completely
transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app
ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We’re
absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.

The press release also notes that the App Store, which is available in 155
countries now has over 850,000 apps, out of which more than 350,000 apps
are designed for the iPad.
